the wind howled its long, mournful cry. ever so slowly tiny particles of frozen liquid drifted silently from the grayed sky. they would land, one by one, on his pelt and melt into tiny pools that chilled his skin. as his long legs trudged through the vast expanse of white earth, he was absolutely quiet. he had yet to eye another equine, another anything for that matter. though he conciously knew this it did not bother him, for he was more than used to taking care of himself.

true, he was too young to be on his own. but there was no one for him. they were all... gone. but he wouldn't go there now, nor ever. whether his reason be that the thoughts were far too painful or just unimportant it did not matter. Who in a strange land would care for a strange colt?
